California Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> has officially declared Feb. 8 \u201cBad Bunny Day<\/a>\u201d across the state, coinciding with Bad Bunny\u2019s upcoming Super Bowl LX<\/a> halftime performance in Santa Clara. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am declaring tomorrow in California as \u2018Bad Bunny Day\u2019 when Bad Bunny performs at the big game in the Golden State with his soothing, beautiful voice, and his very nice looks,\u201d Newsom said via X<\/a> on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Newsom later amplified his support with a tongue-in-cheek follow-up message, describing himself as \u201ca tremendous lover of the Spanish\u201d and \u201ca huge fan of Puerto Rico,\u201d before adding, \u201cWe love Bad Bunny! He is nearly as \u2018hot\u2019 as me \u2014 which is a big compliment, because there is nobody hotter. Happy Bad Bunny Day, America.\u201d <\/p>\n

Support also came from Tim Cook, who praised the artist on social media ahead of the game in a selfie with the singer to social media. <\/p>\n

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Mart\u00ednez Ocasio, is set to deliver an all-Spanish halftime performance at Levi\u2019s Stadium during Super Bowl<\/a> LX, marking one of the most prominent Spanish-language showcases in the event\u2019s history. <\/p>\n

The appearance follows a landmark year for the Puerto Rican artist, who recently won Album of the Year<\/a> at the 2026 Grammy Awards<\/a>, becoming the first artist to claim the prize with a Spanish-language album.<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier this week to  Access Hollywood\u2019s Scott Evans<\/a> about his approach to the halftime show, Bad Bunny said, \u201cI just want to be there. I\u2019m just ready to do it. I want to feel it. I want people to watch it and enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The designation of \u201cBad Bunny Day\u201d also arrives amid heightened political attention around the halftime performance. In recent public remarks, Bad Bunny has spoken out on immigration and identity, including a statement delivered at the Grammys in Los Angeles on Feb. 1, where he said, \u201cICE out\u2026 We\u2019re not savage, we\u2019re not animals, we\u2019re not aliens \u2014 we are humans, and we are Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple Music, which has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show since 2023, continues its partnership with the NFL and Roc Nation, the Jay-Z-founded company responsible for selecting halftime performers. The collaboration has emphasized global and multicultural reach in recent years, with Bad Bunny\u2019s selection reflecting the NFL\u2019s expanding Spanish-language audience.<\/p>\n
