The Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show<\/em> promises to celebrate \u201cfaith, family and freedom\u201d via performances by Kid Rock<\/a>, Brantley Gilbert<\/a>, Lee Brice<\/a> and Gabby Barrett<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

The TPUSA website doesn\u2019t feature information about the show until fairly far down on its homepage. Instead, it\u2019s soliciting donations through promoting the late founder Charlie Kirk\u2019s last book, Stop, in the Name of God<\/em>, and his vision, which includes recruiting high school and college students to raise the next generation to support his movement \u201crooted in faith, freedom and love of country.\u201d <\/p>\n

The TPUSA quartet is counterprogramming to the Super Bowl<\/a> LX halftime, featuring another famous American, Bad Bunny. Kid Rock, promoting the show<\/a> on Fox (which, interestingly, is not streaming the TPUSA halftime show) on Friday (Feb. 6) promised a \u201cclassic rock, in your face\u201d opener, but then pledged to perform \u201cone of the best written songs in a long time.\u201d He didn\u2019t give away the title, but elaborated that it\u2019s a \u201cpretty current, last few years country song. It\u2019s one of the greatest written songs I\u2019ve heard in a long time.\u201d <\/p>\n

Not one to miss an opportunity and being the good capitalist he says he is, Kid Rock will then release that song at midnight. (He does not mention whether he\u2019s donating the proceeds to TPUSA). His hints eliminate the song being \u201cCool Daddy Cool,\u201d his 2001 collaboration with Joe-C that has resurfaced for its the notable lyrics about \u201choes\u201d and the couplet, \u201cYoung ladies, young ladies, I like \u2019em underage\/ Some say that\u2019s statutory (But I say it\u2019s mandatory)\u201d \u2014 lyrics that are much more in line with the Epstein files than supposed family values.<\/p>\n

Rock declared the TPUSA halftime is for people \u201cwho love America, love football, love Jesus.\u201d He also stressed that neither he nor any of the other performers are \u201capproaching this with any hate in our hearts.\u201d (A sentiment that Gilbert also stressed<\/a> in a social media post he made on Friday, though President Trump went out of his way to add that he felt both Bad Bunny and Green Day, who played a rousing opening slot, were not his cup of tea. \u201cI\u2019m anti-them. I think it\u2019s a terrible choice,\u201d Trump told Page Six<\/em><\/a>. \u201cAll it does is sow hatred. Terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rock also said that if the NFL wanted to take care of its fanbase, it would have picked local performers from the Bay Area such as Metallica<\/a> (he\u2019s not alone in that thought), given the game is taking place in Santa Clara, Calif. (But Green Day \u2014 who is from the Bay Area \u2014 did perform<\/a> during the pre-show opening ceremony.)<\/p>\n

4:49 p.m. PT:<\/strong> The seven-minute countdown to the halftime starts with a salute to Charlie Kirk, which is also a promo for conservative Christian Hillsdale College in Michigan, before returning to a countdown and a scroll to text for TPUSA merch and to text \u201cfreedom\u201d to the same number to get \u201cinvolved in the movement.\u201d <\/p>\n

4:53 p.m. PT: <\/strong>A commercial plugging adoption as an option, a key conservative pro-life message, is abruptly cut off for a commercial for tickets to the Olympics in Los Angeles and AI transcription service Otter. <\/p>\n

4:55 p.m. PT:<\/strong> With less than a minute left, Dept. of Defense Pete Hegseth comes on to say \u201cGod bless our warriors and God bless our republic,\u201d before tossing a football toward the camera.<\/p>\n

5:04 p.m.<\/strong> Nearly 10 minutes after the countdown clock ended, I and more than 1.9 million people are waiting on TPUSA\u2019s YouTube channel. The live chat is very active, with people posting flags and hailing where they\u2019re watching from. Maybe they are officially waiting until the first half ends. The actual Super Bowl performance is around 12-13 minutes because it takes about six minutes to load on and six minute to load off, but, obviously, TPUSA\u2019s half-time show has no such concerns.<\/p>\n

5:11: p.m. PT<\/strong> What seems to be Brantley Gilbert\u2019s backing band comes out and his lead guitarist is shredding on an instrumental version of  \u201cThe Star Spangled Banner.\u201d <\/p>\n

5:12<\/strong> p.m. PT<\/strong>: Brantley Gilbert comes out and welcomes the audience and says, \u201cThis is real America\u201d before launching into \u201cReal American,\u201d singing into a microphone that has brass knuckles on the top. He\u2019s paying before a small but ardent live audience in an undisclosed location. The song praises everything \u201cUSA,\u201d as pyro goes off behind him.<\/p>\n

5:15: p.m. ET<\/strong> Gilbert introduces \u201cDirt Road Anthem,\u201d the song he co-write with Colt Ford that became a monster hit for Jason Aldean in 2011. Gilbert starts singing accompanied only by an acoustic guitar before going into the song\u2019s rap\u2026 one of the first songs that incorporated rap and country. It\u2019s a slowed down, lovely version that has the crowd swaying its arms. <\/p>\n

5:20 p.m. PT: <\/strong> Gilbert quickly ends and it switches to Gabby Barrett singing her massive hit, 2020\u2019s \u201cI Hope.\u201d It looks like the same set and there is an audience, but there was no visible switchover, so my hunch is it\u2019s not live and each act taped separately or TPUSA didn\u2019t want to waste time by showing the handoff.<\/p>\n

5:23 p.m. PT: <\/strong>Barrett switches to \u201cThe Good Ones\u201d her follow up about a good guy, as opposed to the louse in \u201cI Hope.\u201d  The American Idol <\/em>alum sounds great.<\/p>\n

5:27: Lee Brice sudden appears on stage and breaks into his 2014 hit, \u201cDrinking Class,\u201d and the crowd cheers when he sings \u201cWhen you knock us down we\u2019ll get up again and again.\u201d <\/p>\n

5:29 p.m. In the first comments to the audience so far and the only performer to mention Charlie Kirk, Brice says. \u201cCharlie gave people microphones so they could say what\u2019s on their minds. This is what\u2019s on mind,\u201d before launching into \u201cIt Ain\u2019t Easy Being Country In This Country Nowadays,\u201d where he just wants to shoot deer and mow his lawn, but he also doesn\u2019t want to think it\u2019s ok for a little boy to dress like a little girl and he resents that \u201cI\u2019m some right wing devil because I was Jesus raised\u2026.because I have my morals and a small-town point of view.\u201d First outwardly political song. <\/p>\n
