Michael Jackson\u2019s<\/a> estate has slammed Sexyy Red\u2019s<\/a> explicit flip of the King of Pop\u2019s classic \u201cBeat It\u201d after footage of the St. Louis rapper\u2019s \u201cJust Eat It\u201d version <\/a>went viral on social media earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were totally unaware of this,\u201d a spokesman for the Michael Jackson Estate tells Billboard<\/em> in a statement on Thursday (Feb. 12). \u201cThe use of the music is unauthorized.\u201d <\/p>\n

Billboard<\/em> has reached out to Sexyy Red\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

Essentially, Sexyy shouldn\u2019t be expecting any sort of clearance for her \u201cJust Eat It\u201d edition from MJ\u2019s estate for the track to receive an official release on DSPs. <\/p>\n

The viral craze began when Lil Yachty<\/a> posted the clip <\/a>of Sexyy rapping along to her version of Michael Jackson\u2019s anthem while in the studio on Tuesday (Feb. 10) to his backup Instagram page.<\/a><\/p>\n

The footage quickly spread across social media and drew vehement backlash from MJ fans after Yachty seemingly joked in his caption that Sexyy\u2019s spicy remix was set to appear on the Michael<\/em> biopic<\/a> soundtrack in April. <\/p>\n

\u201cJust eat it, just eat it\/ You better not nut fast because I hate a minute man\/ And if that d\u2014k is trash, I\u2019m telling all my friends\/ I\u2019ll beat your a\u2014 and we bout to throw them hands,\u201d she raps on her risque version. <\/p>\n

Sexyy posted a separate clip <\/a>of her rapping along to \u201cJust Eat It\u201d on her Instagram on Wednesday (Feb. 11), while leaning into the controversy. \u201cLeaked footage from da Michael Jackson movie HOOCHIE TRIBUTE TO DA BEST LLMJ,\u201d she wrote.  <\/p>\n

Rap pioneer Monie Love chimed in to condemn Sexyy for her MJ sample flip, calling the move \u201cbeyond disrespectful.\u201d \u201cWhoever cleared the \u2018Beat It\u2019 sample for Sexyy Red, I hope they know they not seeing heaven,\u201d she wrote<\/a> on X. \u201cPlaying with MJ name and discography like that is beyond disrespectful!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sexyy Red has proven to be a fan of Michael Jackson in the past. The 27-year-old brought out MJ impersonator<\/a> Rico Hampton to perform \u201cBillie Jean\u201d for the crowd at her hometown show in St. Louis in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeat It\u201d arrived as part of Michael Jackson\u2019s Thriller <\/em>classic in 1982, and the Quincy Jones<\/a>-produced anthem went on to top the Billboard Hot 100.<\/a> <\/p>\n
