J\u00d3VENES CON SOBREPESO: EL GRUPO DONDE EL RIESGO SE DISPARA<\/h2>\n
Los investigadores analizaron datos de 136.498 participantes en el Estudio de Salud de Enfermeras y el Estudio de Seguimiento de Profesionales de la Salud. Todos los participantes ten\u00edan un IMC basal superior a 25 kg\/m2 y sus edades oscilaban entre los 25 y los 69 a\u00f1os para las mujeres y entre los 43 y los 80 a\u00f1os para los hombres cuando el estudio comenz\u00f3 en 1990. Para estimar la exposici\u00f3n acumulada al exceso de IMC durante un per\u00edodo de diez a\u00f1os, los investigadores promediaron las mediciones de IMC de los participantes entre 1990 y 2000.<\/p>\n
Comenzaron a realizar un seguimiento de la salud cardiovascular de los participantes en 2000 y continuaron haci\u00e9ndolo durante un promedio de 16,7 a\u00f1os. Durante ese tiempo, 12.048 (8,8%) de los participantes experimentaron eventos cardiovasculares como un ataque card\u00edaco o un accidente cerebrovascular.<\/p>\n
El equipo hall\u00f3 una fuerte relaci\u00f3n entre la exposici\u00f3n prolongada al exceso de peso y un mayor riesgo de enfermedad cardiovascular. Este efecto fue m\u00e1s pronunciado en las personas m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes y en aquellas con mayor exposici\u00f3n acumulada al exceso de peso. <\/p>\n
Por ejemplo, las mujeres menores de 35 a\u00f1os al inicio del estudio presentaban un riesgo un 60% mayor de enfermedad cardiovascular con una alta exposici\u00f3n acumulada al exceso de peso, en comparaci\u00f3n con el 27% en mujeres de 35 a 50 a\u00f1os y el 23% en hombres de 35 a 65 a\u00f1os. No se observ\u00f3 ninguna asociaci\u00f3n en mujeres mayores de 50 a\u00f1os ni en hombres mayores de 65 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n
