En esa categor\u00eda de \u201cMoby Dick c\u00f3smico\u201d viven los primeros astros que surgieron tras el Big Bang. Las llamadas estrellas de la poblaci\u00f3n III brillaron durante muy poco tiempo, alcanzaron masas decenas o cientos de veces mayores que la del Sol, ardieron a temperaturas extremas incluso para est\u00e1ndares c\u00f3smicos y nacieron \u201cpuras\u201d, es decir, libres de metales, ya que solo fusionaban hidr\u00f3geno y helio.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy, con un <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/cual-big-bang-el-universo-surgio-de-un-agujero-negro-dentro-de-otro-universo-todavia-mas-grande-propone-un-cientifico\">universo<\/a> de 13,800 millones de a\u00f1os, ninguna de esas estrellas primigenias puede seguir viva. Solo quedan astros formados a partir de los restos que dejaron. Afortunadamente, los telescopios m\u00e1s potentes pueden detectar rastros de aquella primera generaci\u00f3n. Esta es una regi\u00f3n dentro de la V\u00eda L\u00e1ctea donde constantemente nacen estrellas.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"BaseText-fEwdHD CaptionCredit-cUgOGk iQbGEh hRFzlA caption__credit\">NASA\/JPL-Caltech<\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Eso podr\u00eda estar a punto de cambiar. <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2603.20362\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2603.20362&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2603.20362\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dos art\u00edculos cient\u00edficos<\/a> recientes reportan la detecci\u00f3n del c\u00famulo estelar \u201cm\u00e1s puro y pr\u00edstino\u201d observado hasta ahora. \u201cHebe\u201d, como lo apodan los astr\u00f3nomos, aparece como un punto diminuto en una imagen del telescopio espacial James Webb, pero cumple casi todos los criterios que deber\u00eda mostrar un conjunto de estrellas de poblaci\u00f3n III.<\/p>\n<h2>Hebe, un punto que podr\u00eda ser un c\u00famulo de estrellas puras<\/h2>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los estudios, a\u00fan en proceso de revisi\u00f3n por pares, la luz de Hebe proviene de una \u00e9poca en la que el universo ten\u00eda unos 400 millones de a\u00f1os, apenas el 3% de su edad actual, pr\u00e1cticamente en la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/un-fosil-cosmico-muestra-como-era-el-universo-temprano\">infancia c\u00f3smica<\/a>. Los an\u00e1lisis no detectan metales en su entorno y revelan se\u00f1ales propias de una fuente extremadamente caliente. Adem\u00e1s, su tama\u00f1o compacto lo descarta como una galaxia completa.<\/p>\n<p>En conjunto, estas caracter\u00edsticas apuntan a un c\u00famulo de estrellas muy masivas de poblaci\u00f3n III. Dej\u00f3 de ser una supergigante roja para convertirse en algo m\u00e1s raro.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<p>Si Hebe se confirma, habr\u00eda existido en un momento peculiar del cosmos, cuando el universo segu\u00eda parcialmente opaco. El hidr\u00f3geno neutro absorb\u00eda la mayor parte de la luz ultravioleta de las primeras estrellas e imped\u00eda que viajara lejos. A gran escala, el espacio permanec\u00eda mayoritariamente oscuro. Para que el universo adquiriera la transparencia ultravioleta que hoy reconocemos, todav\u00eda deb\u00edan pasar entre 400 y 600 millones de a\u00f1os m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>En los pr\u00f3ximos a\u00f1os, si nuevas observaciones refuerzan la naturaleza pr\u00edstina de Hebe, podr\u00edamos reconstruir por primera vez c\u00f3mo eran <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/earendel-la-estrella-mas-lejana-conocida-podria-no-ser-un-astro-despues-de-todo\">las primeras estrellas del universo<\/a>, c\u00f3mo encendieron la luz en un cosmos a\u00fan opaco y c\u00f3mo sembraron los elementos que m\u00e1s tarde formar\u00edan galaxias, planetas y vida.
