Pero ese gran escenario nunca podr\u00e1 concretarse si antes los cient\u00edficos no resuelven una cuesti\u00f3n fundamental: \u00bfc\u00f3mo producir suficiente energ\u00eda de manera prolongada?<\/p>\n<p>Por ahora, las soluciones m\u00e1s avanzadas proponen el uso de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/la-nasa-y-los-departamentos-de-defensa-y-energia-de-ee-uu-trabajaran-para-poner-reactores-nucleares-en-la-luna-cuanto-antes\">reactores nucleares<\/a>. Representan opciones efectivas y plausibles, pero son esencialmente pilas ultraeficientes que deben cambiarse cada 10 a\u00f1os. Para la Luna, que est\u00e1 a solo dos d\u00edas de viaje de la Tierra, el plan es factible. Para Marte, cuyo trayecto podr\u00eda durar <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/este-atajo-a-marte-inspirado-en-un-asteroide-olvidado-reduciria-el-viaje-de-400-a-153-dias\">hasta nueve meses<\/a>, hay dudas.<\/p>\n<p>Cient\u00edficos chinos proponen una soluci\u00f3n m\u00e1s amplia, casi inspirada en la ciencia ficci\u00f3n. Se trata de establecer una refiner\u00eda que produzca electricidad y recursos vitales aprovechando la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/un-dia-claro-y-azulado-en-marte-el-rover-perseverance-entrega-una-de-las-fotos-mas-nitidas-de-su-mision\">atm\u00f3sfera de Marte<\/a>. Cuando opere el MARS\u2011MES (Mars Atmospheric Resource &amp; Multimodal Energy System), capturar\u00e1 el di\u00f3xido de carbono de la atm\u00f3sfera marciana, lo convertir\u00e1 en energ\u00eda y, a partir de ah\u00ed, lo transformar\u00e1 en recursos esenciales como ox\u00edgeno, agua y combustible.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan el primer acercamiento, el MARS\u2011MES comprimir\u00e1 el gas utilizando energ\u00eda generada por un reactor nuclear y otros mecanismos a\u00fan en fase de investigaci\u00f3n. Dentro del sistema, el CO<sub>2<\/sub> actuar\u00eda como fluido de trabajo para convertir el calor del reactor en electricidad. El calor sobrante alimentar\u00e1 una cadena de procesos qu\u00edmicos ya conocidos, desde la electr\u00f3lisis del di\u00f3xido de carbono para producir ox\u00edgeno hasta la s\u00edntesis de metano y agua a partir de compuestos como CO<sub>2<\/sub> e hidr\u00f3geno.<\/p>\n<p>Har\u00e1n falta d\u00e9cadas para que un proyecto como el MARS\u2011MES pueda materializarse, aceptan los cient\u00edficos. Sin embargo, las primeras misiones tripuladas a Marte est\u00e1n planificadas tambi\u00e9n dentro de ese mismo marco temporal. Los investigadores se muestran optimistas de que esta tecnolog\u00eda, que permitir\u00eda refinar la atm\u00f3sfera marciana, avance a la par que <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/nasa-identifica-lugar-ideal-para-buscar-formas-de-vida-en-superficie-de-marte\">otros elementos clave del viaje<\/a> al planeta rojo.<\/p>\n<p>Marte es particularmente adecuado para que funcione una planta refinadora como esta. Su atm\u00f3sfera es 96% di\u00f3xido de carbono y tiene una presi\u00f3n muy baja, menos del 1% de la terrestre; mientras es un recurso pr\u00e1cticamente ilimitado y renovable, comprimirlo requiere poca energ\u00eda. Por supuesto, seg\u00fan el plan de China, quienes habiten Marte seguir\u00e1n necesitando vivir en espacios completamente sellados, pero el problema de la electricidad y el agua quedar\u00eda, en gran parte, resuelto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreemos que el aire marciano, utilizado como medio de trabajo para un sistema nuclear espacial e integrado con conversi\u00f3n de calor a electricidad y procesos qu\u00edmicos, est\u00e1 abriendo el camino hacia una transformaci\u00f3n multimodal de recursos en Marte\u00bb, dice el informe.<\/p>\n<p>De acuerdo con autoridades chinas, la siguiente misi\u00f3n a Marte ser\u00e1 Tianwen\u20113, prevista para 2028, que deber\u00e1 traer las muestras de suelo que ya recogi\u00f3 el <em>rover<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/todos-los-rovers-y-sondas-en-marte-y-la-luna\">Zhurong<\/a>.
