A partir de la toxina del ar\u00e1cnido, el equipo logr\u00f3 aislar dos mol\u00e9culas incoloras denominadas benzoquinonas, compuestos heteroc\u00edclicos que no contienen amino\u00e1cidos.<\/p>\n<p>Estas mol\u00e9culas presentan una propiedad particular: <strong>al entrar en contacto con el aire se oxidan y cambian de color.<\/strong> Una adquiere tonalidad azul y la otra roja. Este comportamiento permiti\u00f3 a los cient\u00edficos determinar su estructura qu\u00edmica, sintetizarlas en laboratorio y evaluar sus propiedades biol\u00f3gicas.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados mostraron que la benzoquinona azul tiene la capacidad de actuar contra la bacteria causante de la tuberculosis, mientras que la roja resulta eficaz frente a <em>Staphylococcus aureus.<\/em> En este proceso particip\u00f3 Richard Zare, reconocido experto en el campo de la fisicoqu\u00edmica y profesor de Qu\u00edmica en la Universidad de Stanford, lo que fortaleci\u00f3 la validaci\u00f3n de los hallazgos.<\/p>\n<p>El proyecto tambi\u00e9n cont\u00f3 con la colaboraci\u00f3n de Rogelio Hern\u00e1ndez Pando, del Instituto Nacional de Ciencias M\u00e9dicas y Nutrici\u00f3n Salvador Zubir\u00e1n, quien evalu\u00f3 el efecto de la benzoquinona azul en un modelo murino con tuberculosis inducida. Tras los ensayos, concluy\u00f3 que <strong>la mol\u00e9cula funciona como un antibi\u00f3tico altamente eficaz contra esta enfermedad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Posteriormente, el equipo realiz\u00f3 nuevas pruebas y detect\u00f3 que la misma sustancia tambi\u00e9n es capaz de eliminar otras bacterias, como <em>Acinetobacter baumannii<\/em>, un <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/gen-que-crea-superbacterias-resistentes-a-antibioticos-se-propaga\">pat\u00f3geno oportunista<\/a> altamente resistente que suele asociarse con infecciones en sangre, v\u00edas urinarias, pulmones y heridas, especialmente en hospitales.<\/p>\n<p>Las mol\u00e9culas obtenidas del veneno de alacr\u00e1n ya fueron patentadas en M\u00e9xico y Sud\u00e1frica con el objetivo de ampliar el alcance del proyecto. Actualmente, los investigadores trabajan en el desarrollo de nanopart\u00edculas que funcionen como estabilizadores y sistemas de protecci\u00f3n, con miras a que los antibi\u00f3ticos puedan administrarse de forma segura en el organismo.<\/p>\n<p><a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.gaceta.unam.mx\/elaboran-nuevos-antibioticos-con-veneno-de-alacran-y-chile-habanero\/\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.gaceta.unam.mx\/elaboran-nuevos-antibioticos-con-veneno-de-alacran-y-chile-habanero\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gaceta.unam.mx\/elaboran-nuevos-antibioticos-con-veneno-de-alacran-y-chile-habanero\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">De acuerdo con el doctor Possani Postay<\/a>, el siguiente paso consiste en realizar ensayos cl\u00ednicos, aunque reconoce que estos implican una inversi\u00f3n considerable. Por ello, expres\u00f3 su inter\u00e9s en que alguna farmac\u00e9utica nacional colabore para llevar los compuestos a una producci\u00f3n a gran escala.<\/p>\n<h2>De la salsa a un antibi\u00f3tico<\/h2>\n<p>En paralelo, otro grupo del Instituto de Biotecnolog\u00eda de la UNAM identific\u00f3 en el chile habanero un p\u00e9ptido con capacidad para combatir bacterias oportunistas que pueden provocar infecciones graves, particularmente en pacientes con sistemas inmunol\u00f3gicos debilitados.<\/p>\n<p>Este proyecto, liderado por Gerardo Corzo Burguete junto con Georgina Estrada Tapia, del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica de Yucat\u00e1n, se enfoc\u00f3 en la bacteria <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em>, considerada por la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud como un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/publications\/i\/item\/9789240093461\">pat\u00f3geno de alta prioridad<\/a> debido a su resistencia a los antibi\u00f3ticos convencionales.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos identificaron en el chile habanero (<em>Capsicum chinense<\/em>) un p\u00e9ptido denominado defensina J1-1.
