Ya se cuenta con buenos motores de propulsi\u00f3n, pero no ocurre lo mismo con las computadoras dentro de las naves. Los chips actuales no pueden hacerle frente al estr\u00e9s de un largo viaje a trav\u00e9s del espacio profundo ni a sus restricciones energ\u00e9ticas. Afortunadamente, la nueva generaci\u00f3n de procesadores espaciales s\u00ed asegura tener este potencial y est\u00e1 a punto de salir del horno.<\/p>\n<p>La NASA actualiz\u00f3 recientemente el estatus de su prometedor chip de alto rendimiento para vuelo espacial (HPSC, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). El <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/microsoft-quiere-crear-chips-con-venas-para-solucionar-el-problema-de-la-refrigeracion\">microprocesador<\/a> entra oficialmente a la fase de pruebas, donde deber\u00e1 demostrar sus capacidades en potencia, rendimiento, fiabilidad y, sobre todo, tolerancia a la radiaci\u00f3n. Estados Unidos quiere poner los primeros operativos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<h2>Lo que sabemos del chip espacial que usar\u00e1 la NASA<\/h2>\n<p>En plena carrera espacial, a\u00fan no hay especificaciones p\u00fablicas completas. Por ahora, se sabe que el <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.microchip.com\/en-us\/about\/media-center\/blog\/2026\/complete-solutions-for-pic64-hpsc-spaceflight-computing-designs\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.microchip.com\/en-us\/about\/media-center\/blog\/2026\/complete-solutions-for-pic64-hpsc-spaceflight-computing-designs&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microchip.com\/en-us\/about\/media-center\/blog\/2026\/complete-solutions-for-pic64-hpsc-spaceflight-computing-designs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PIC64\u2011HPSC<\/a> ofrecer\u00e1 hasta 100 veces m\u00e1s rendimiento que los procesadores espaciales actuales y que es desarrollado por Microchip Technology Inc., tras ganar un contrato de 50 millones de d\u00f3lares. Tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para ahorrar energ\u00eda, el recurso m\u00e1s cr\u00edtico en el espacio, y para ejecutar sistemas de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/google-planea-mandar-centros-de-datos-al-espacio-para-alimentar-la-ia-con-luz-solar\">inteligencia artificial a bordo<\/a>, fundamental para los viajes donde no hay conexi\u00f3n con bases terrestres.<\/p>\n<p>Es un sistema en un chip (SoC). La arquitectura supone que los componentes necesarios para que funcione, como CPU, controladores, aceleradores y perif\u00e9ricos, est\u00e1n incluidos en la l\u00e1mina. Los SoC han demostrado ser eficientes en tel\u00e9fonos, tablets y computadoras. Ahora es tiempo de que salgan al espacio, a cientos de miles de kil\u00f3metros de la Tierra.<\/p>\n<p>Microchip Technology tambi\u00e9n adelant\u00f3 que estar\u00e1 disponible para gobiernos y sectores comerciales. Su uso no se limita a dirigir naves; t\u00e9cnicamente puede guiar sondas, veh\u00edculos de aterrizaje, <em>rovers<\/em>, h\u00e1bitats e incluso telescopios espaciales como el James Webb.<\/p>\n<h2>Las pruebas<\/h2>\n<p>El principal enemigo de un microprocesador en el espacio es la radiaci\u00f3n, part\u00edculas energ\u00e9ticas que atraviesan el silicio, alteran bits o provocan fallos cr\u00edticos como eventos de sobrecorriente capaces de destruir el chip. Mientras las misiones se mantienen cerca de la Tierra, la magnetosfera act\u00faa como escudo protector; pero a medida que se alejan, el riesgo aumenta.<\/p>\n<p>Desde febrero, la NASA ejecuta pruebas que simulan estos entornos extremos sobre su nuevo procesador. No solo debe \u201csobrevivir\u201d a la radiaci\u00f3n o a los cambios bruscos de temperatura, tambi\u00e9n necesita operar al rendimiento esperado. Por ahora, los expertos de la agencia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/technology\/hello-universe-nasas-next-gen-space-processor-undergoes-testing\/\">se muestran optimistas<\/a>. En pruebas tempranas, el HPSC ha llegado a rendir hasta 500 veces m\u00e1s que los procesadores espaciales actuales, seg\u00fan la propia NASA. Incluso lograron enviar un mensaje de prueba desde el <em>hardware<\/em>: un simb\u00f3lico \u201c<em>Hello, Universe<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Todav\u00eda quedan algunos meses de ensayos, pero todo indica que la llegada de los chips espaciales de nueva generaci\u00f3n es inminente. Si el HPSC cumple lo que promete, marcar\u00e1 un punto y aparte en las misiones espaciales.
