As\u00ed lo plantea una nueva investigaci\u00f3n encabezada por cient\u00edficos de la Universidad de Columbia, que analiz\u00f3 c\u00f3mo la duraci\u00f3n del sue\u00f1o influye en la velocidad del deterioro del cuerpo humano.<\/p>\n<p>Estudios previos ya hab\u00edan sugerido que <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/como-si-necesitaramos-excusa-dormir-mas-ayuda-limpiar-desechos-metabolicos-cerebro\">dormir alrededor de ocho horas<\/a> puede ser beneficioso para la salud (como la reducci\u00f3n del <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/estudio-define-los-tiempos-que-hay-que-dormir-y-hacer-ejercicio-para-reducir-los-riesgos-de-demencia\">riesgo de demencia<\/a>). El sistema fue dise\u00f1ado para evaluar la relaci\u00f3n entre el sue\u00f1o y 23 relojes biol\u00f3gicos asociados con el envejecimiento de 17 \u00f3rganos, mediante el an\u00e1lisis de biomarcadores, im\u00e1genes m\u00e9dicas, prote\u00ednas y metabolitos.<\/p>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-10524-5\">publicada<\/a> esta semana en la revista <em>Nature<\/em>, utiliz\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n del UK Biobank, una plataforma de investigaci\u00f3n a largo plazo que re\u00fane datos m\u00e9dicos, im\u00e1genes cerebrales y h\u00e1bitos de vida de m\u00e1s de 500,000 personas de entre 37 y 84 a\u00f1os de edad.<\/p>\n<p>Los autores identificaron una relaci\u00f3n en forma de \u201cU\u201d entre las horas de sue\u00f1o y el envejecimiento biol\u00f3gico. Esto significa que <strong>tanto dormir poco como dormir en exceso se asocia con un deterioro m\u00e1s acelerado del organismo,<\/strong> mientras que un rango intermedio mostr\u00f3 mayores beneficios para la salud.<\/p>\n<p>En particular, los resultados revelaron que dormir entre 6.4 y 7.8 horas por noche reduce la diferencia entre la edad cronol\u00f3gica y la edad biol\u00f3gica. En t\u00e9rminos generales, el estudio concluy\u00f3 que descansar menos de seis horas o superar las ocho horas se relaciona con un mayor riesgo de enfermedades sist\u00e9micas, como diabetes e hipertensi\u00f3n, adem\u00e1s de una mayor probabilidad de mortalidad prematura por cualquier causa.<\/p>\n<h2>El impacto desigual del sue\u00f1o en el cuerpo<\/h2>\n<p>Aun as\u00ed, <strong>el rango considerado \u00f3ptimo present\u00f3 variaciones dependiendo del \u00f3rgano analizado<\/strong>. Por ejemplo, un reloj biol\u00f3gico basado en prote\u00ednas card\u00edacas indic\u00f3 que seis horas de sue\u00f1o ser\u00edan suficientes para el coraz\u00f3n. En contraste, un indicador centrado en el cerebro sugiri\u00f3 que lo m\u00e1s favorable ser\u00eda mantener un descanso continuo de ocho horas.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n detectaron diferencias en la relaci\u00f3n entre la duraci\u00f3n del sue\u00f1o y la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/apenas-estamos-entendiendo-el-papel-de-la-soledad-en-el-deterioro-mental-de-los-adultos-mayores\">depresi\u00f3n durante la vejez<\/a>. Entre las personas que dorm\u00edan m\u00e1s tiempo del recomendado, el incremento del riesgo de padecer este trastorno parec\u00eda estar vinculado con un desgaste biol\u00f3gico m\u00e1s acelerado. En otras palabras, el exceso de sue\u00f1o podr\u00eda acompa\u00f1arse de se\u00f1ales de envejecimiento f\u00edsico y celular que aumentan la probabilidad de desarrollar depresi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En cambio, entre quienes duermen menos de lo necesario, la relaci\u00f3n con la depresi\u00f3n parecer\u00eda ser m\u00e1s inmediata.
