Sin embargo, seguimos estudiando qu\u00e9 tan violento fue. Los modelos actuales sugieren que, en alg\u00fan momento despu\u00e9s de su formaci\u00f3n, los planetas gigantes atravesaron una fase de inestabilidad tan extrema que uno o incluso dos cuerpos del tama\u00f1o de Urano o Neptuno fueron expulsados al espacio interestelar. Si ese escenario ocurri\u00f3, es posible que encontremos pistas en los lugares m\u00e1s inesperados del sistema solar, como las lunas de J\u00fapiter y, sobre todo, las de Urano.<\/p>\n<p>Un reciente art\u00edculo publicado en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0019103526001223?via%3Dihub\"><em>Icarus<\/em><\/a> analiz\u00f3 122 posibles escenarios de esa inestabilidad para evaluar c\u00f3mo habr\u00edan reaccionado los sistemas de sat\u00e9lites de los planetas \u201cque quedaron\u201d. Los investigadores concluyeron que ser\u00eda extremadamente dif\u00edcil explicar las caracter\u00edsticas actuales de las lunas de Urano sin alg\u00fan episodio de inestabilidad violenta. Y ese tipo de inestabilidad solo aparece en modelos donde existieron m\u00e1s planetas gigantes de los que vemos hoy.<\/p>\n<p>Lo m\u00e1s probable, se\u00f1alan los autores, es que las lunas de Urano fueron desestabilizadas al menos dos veces en el pasado: primero por el <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/la-tierra-y-theia-eran-vecinas\">impacto<\/a> que inclin\u00f3 al planeta, y despu\u00e9s por los encuentros cercanos entre planetas gigantes durante la inestabilidad. Podr\u00eda ser la clave para entender cu\u00e1ntos planetas tuvo desde el principio nuestro vecindario espacial.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span class=\"BaseText-fEwdHD CaptionCredit-cUgOGk iQbGEh hRFzlA caption__credit\">NASA<\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>El sistema solar y el caos<\/h2>\n<p>J\u00fapiter, Saturno, Urano y Neptuno no siempre tuvieron sus posiciones actuales en el sistema solar. Seg\u00fan el modelo de inestabilidad planetaria, nacieron un poco m\u00e1s cerca del Sol y m\u00e1s juntos entre s\u00ed. Al cabo de millones de a\u00f1os fueron migrando hacia sus actuales \u00f3rbitas, distanci\u00e1ndose y adquiriendo sus caracter\u00edsticas actuales.<\/p>\n<p>Pero hay detalles de este modelo que no encajan con las observaciones. Por un lado, las \u00f3rbitas actuales de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/jupiter-y-saturno-tienen-mas-lunas-de-lo-que-se-pensaba\">J\u00fapiter y Saturno<\/a> son exc\u00e9ntricas, mientras que hay estructuras espec\u00edficas como el <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/estamos-a-punto-de-descubrir-los-secretos-del-cinturon-de-kuiper\">cintur\u00f3n de Kuiper<\/a> que impiden que Neptuno se desplace a la posici\u00f3n que tiene. Cuando las simulaciones corr\u00edan, los planetas no llegaban a las zonas que tienen hoy.<\/p>\n<p>Por lo tanto, es posible que el sistema solar tuvo m\u00e1s planetas y estos fueron los que \u201cempujaron a los dem\u00e1s\u201d. Bajo esta hip\u00f3tesis, el rompecabezas del sistema solar encaja mejor. El problema es que, esos cuerpos ya no est\u00e1n. Fueron expulsados y sin dejar rastros f\u00edsicos o fragmentos. Us\u00f3 en total 122 simulaciones de evoluci\u00f3n del sistema solar, cuando usualmente se usan muy pocas. En el 85% de los escenarios, el sistema de lunas de Urano colapsa. Solo en un pu\u00f1ado de escenarios sus lunas sobreviven, y, en todas, encaja muy bien la hip\u00f3tesis de los planetas perdidos y expulsados.<\/p>\n<p>El reporte se\u00f1ala a Miranda, la luna m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a del <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/hubble-sobre-urano-nuevos-hallazgos-sobre-atmosfera-e-imagenes\">sistema mayor de Urano<\/a>. Los astr\u00f3nomos la consideran como \u201cla m\u00e1s rara\u201d del sistema solar. Est\u00e1 llena de parches, como si estuviera cosida con retazos, y es demasiada helada para su tama\u00f1o, inusualmente peque\u00f1a considerando al resto de las lunas de Urano. Adem\u00e1s, tiene actividad geol\u00f3gica.<\/p>\n<p>Los astr\u00f3nomos piensan que Miranda es el despojo de un cuerpo mayor.
