Su an\u00f3mala velocidad tiene una explicaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s inquietante: orbita Sagitario A*, el agujero negro supermasivo que est\u00e1 en el centro de la V\u00eda L\u00e1ctea, cuya masa equivale a cuatro millones de veces la del Sol.<\/p>\n<p>S301, como los astr\u00f3nomos han nombrado al astro, alcanza los 25,000 kil\u00f3metros por segundo (km\/s) en su punto de m\u00e1xima velocidad y tarda 8.7 a\u00f1os en completar una vuelta alrededor de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/centro-de-la-via-lactea-es-un-nucleo-de-materia-oscura-no-un-agujero-negro-propone-estudio\">Sagitario A*<\/a>. Para contrastar, el Sol orbita el centro de la galaxia a cerca de 230 km\/s. En su pico de velocidad, S301 se mueve m\u00e1s de 100 veces m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que nuestra estrella y alcanza el 8% de la velocidad de la luz.<\/p>\n<figure data-testid=\"IframeEmbed\" class=\"IframeEmbedWrapper-sc-fixZhC fJBrNq iframe-embed\"><\/figure>\n<h2>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 tiene esa velocidad?<\/h2>\n<p>La clave de la velocidad de S301 est\u00e1 en lo cerca que pasa del agujero negro supermasivo. De acuerdo con el Observatorio Europeo Austral (ESO), en su punto de m\u00e1ximo acercamiento, la distancia entre ambos es comparable a la que existe entre <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/saturno-tiene-una-luna-que-podria-convertirse-en-la-proxima-gasolinera-del-sistema-solar\">Saturno<\/a> y el Sol.<\/p>\n<p>El enorme tir\u00f3n gravitacional de Sagitario A* acelera a la estrella conforme se aproxima al agujero negro. S301, sin embargo, no cae directamente hacia \u00e9l, sino que sigue una \u00f3rbita extremadamente alargada a su alrededor.<\/p>\n<p>Esa forma de su \u00f3rbita tambi\u00e9n explica por qu\u00e9 su velocidad cambia tanto. En su punto de mayor acercamiento se mueve m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido, mientras que cuando est\u00e1 m\u00e1s lejos avanza m\u00e1s despacio. Adem\u00e1s, probablemente no naci\u00f3 donde hoy la vemos y pudo haber perdido a una compa\u00f1era en el camino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl hecho de que las estrellas no puedan formarse tan cerca de un agujero negro masivo indica que probablemente la estrella formaba parte de un par binario que fue desgarrado por las fuerzas de marea de Sagitario A*. La masa y la rotaci\u00f3n, o <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/recrean-el-potente-giro-de-un-agujero-negro-en-un-laboratorio\"><em>spin<\/em><\/a>, son dos de las propiedades fundamentales que los cient\u00edficos utilizan para describir astrof\u00edsicamente un agujero negro. Hasta ahora hay se\u00f1ales de que Sagitario A* gira, pero todav\u00eda no es posible determinar con precisi\u00f3n cu\u00e1nto ni hacia d\u00f3nde lo hace.<\/p>\n<p>De acuerdo con la teor\u00eda de la relatividad general, un agujero negro que gira arrastra consigo el espacio-tiempo a su alrededor. Ese efecto deber\u00eda alterar ligeramente la \u00f3rbita de S301.
