En divulgaci\u00f3n, le apodan \u201csopa primordial\u201d. Los cient\u00edficos la llaman plasma de quarks y gluones (QGP, por su nombre en ingl\u00e9s). Desde hace algunos a\u00f1os, los colisionadores de part\u00edculas han logrado acceder a este estado relacionado con el Big Bang. Ahora, un reciente experimento de la Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para la Investigaci\u00f3n Nuclear (CERN, por sus siglas en franc\u00e9s) sugiere que puede aparecer en colisiones mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as de lo que los f\u00edsicos esperaban.<\/p>\n<h2>La sopa y los mini Big Bang<\/h2>\n<p>Primero, un poco de contexto. De acuerdo con el modelo est\u00e1ndar de part\u00edculas, los quarks conforman los protones y neutrones. Estos, a su vez, son los ladrillos que forman los n\u00facleos de los \u00e1tomos. Mientras tanto, los gluones (su nombre proviene del ingl\u00e9s <em>glue<\/em>, pegamento) transmiten la interacci\u00f3n que mantiene unidos a los quarks.<\/p>\n<p>Durante los <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/que-habia-antes-del-big-bang-la-teoria-del-rebote-ofrece-una-respuesta\">primeros microsegundos del universo<\/a>, el medio alcanzaba temperaturas tan extremas que los quarks y gluones todav\u00eda no permanec\u00edan confinados dentro de protones y neutrones, sino que formaban un plasma extremadamente caliente. A medida que el universo se expandi\u00f3 y enfri\u00f3, los quarks quedaron confinados en part\u00edculas como protones y neutrones, que mucho despu\u00e9s formar\u00edan los n\u00facleos de los \u00e1tomos.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy ya no existe una fuente natural accesible de aquella sopa primordial. Despu\u00e9s de d\u00e9cadas de estudiarlo en grandes colisiones nucleares, los f\u00edsicos ahora intentan comprender los l\u00edmites de este <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/los-fisicos-no-estan-de-acuerdo-en-casi-nada-sobre-el-universo-muestra-una-inmensa-encuesta\">extra\u00f1o estado de la materia<\/a>. En particular, exploran hasta qu\u00e9 punto pueden reducir una colisi\u00f3n y seguir observando un conjunto de part\u00edculas que se comporta colectivamente como una gota de fluido.<\/p>\n<p>Por ahora, la ciencia est\u00e1 bastante segura de que la sopa primordial aparece con el choque de n\u00facleos grandes, como el plomo. Pero tambi\u00e9n se ha enfrentado a condiciones inusuales, como la colisi\u00f3n entre un n\u00facleo de plomo y un prot\u00f3n o el impacto de dos protones.<\/p>\n<h2>Una sopa cada vez m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a<\/h2>\n<p>En un reciente art\u00edculo publicado en <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/gymp-vp87\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/gymp-vp87&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/gymp-vp87\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Physical Review Letters<\/em><\/a>, la Colaboraci\u00f3n ALICE presenta los resultados de colisiones entre n\u00facleos mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os que los utilizados tradicionalmente para estudiar el QGP: ox\u00edgeno-16 y ne\u00f3n-20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHemos superado los l\u00edmites del tama\u00f1o m\u00ednimo que pueden tener los n\u00facleos at\u00f3micos sin dejar de recrear esta materia primordial, lo que podr\u00edamos llamar un peque\u00f1o Big Bang. Ahora sabemos m\u00e1s sobre las condiciones fundamentales necesarias para que la materia transite a este estado extremo\u201d, explic\u00f3 en un comunicado You Zhou, investigador del Instituto Niels Bohr y miembro de la Colaboraci\u00f3n ALICE.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos encontraron que, pese al peque\u00f1o tama\u00f1o de los n\u00facleos de ox\u00edgeno y ne\u00f3n, las colisiones produjeron se\u00f1ales del comportamiento que esperaban encontrar en el plasma de quarks y gluones.
