Detectada \u00fanicamente por su influencia gravitacional sobre los objetos visibles, la materia oscura representa aproximadamente el 85% de toda la materia, envolviendo galaxias enteras en grandes esferoides que se ramifican y entrelazan para formar el andamiaje del universo.<\/p>\n<p>Pero las especificaciones de esta grandiosa arquitectura siguen envueltas en misterio. Impulsado por una fuerza fantasmal que los cient\u00edficos llaman <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/quiza-nadie-necesite-la-energia-oscura\">energ\u00eda oscura<\/a>, el universo est\u00e1 en constante cambio, expandi\u00e9ndose continuamente a un ritmo acelerado.<\/p>\n<p>Un nuevo telescopio espacial, que se lanzar\u00e1 el 30 de agosto desde el Centro Espacial Kennedy de la NASA en Florida, intentar\u00e1 desentra\u00f1ar la naturaleza de estos oscuros fen\u00f3menos intergal\u00e1cticos. Con la resoluci\u00f3n del Hubble y un campo de visi\u00f3n unas 100 veces mayor, el Telescopio Espacial Nancy Grace Roman ofrecer\u00e1 una nueva forma de observar el universo que podr\u00eda ayudar a resolver algunas de las preguntas m\u00e1s importantes de <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/el-telescopio-mas-grande-en-el-espacio-obliga-a-los-astronomos-a-reescribir-el-origen-del-universo\">la astrof\u00edsica.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00abPor naturaleza, un observatorio como Roman es una m\u00e1quina de descubrimientos. Vamos a encontrar cosas raras, inusuales, nuevas y sorprendentes\u00bb, afirma Julie McEnery, cient\u00edfica principal del proyecto del <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/la-nasa-cancela-la-mision-de-rescate-y-decide-sacrificar-el-antiguo-telescopio-swift\">telescopio espacial de la NASA.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>El observatorio fue bautizado as\u00ed por el primer astr\u00f3nomo jefe de la NASA<\/h2>\n<p>Durante su misi\u00f3n principal de cinco a\u00f1os, el telescopio Roman cartografiar\u00e1 vastas extensiones del espacio para obtener una imagen completa de las galaxias y la materia oscura, lo que ayudar\u00e1 a los cient\u00edficos a comprender c\u00f3mo cambian con el tiempo <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/las-estructuras-cosmicas-desafian-la-relatividad-de-einstein\">las formaciones m\u00e1s grandes del universo.<\/a> El telescopio, que lleva el nombre del primer astr\u00f3nomo jefe de la NASA, rastrear\u00e1 estructuras astrof\u00edsicas midiendo sutiles distorsiones de la luz causadas por la gravedad, lo que permitir\u00e1 a los cient\u00edficos estudiar c\u00f3mo la energ\u00eda oscura impulsa la evoluci\u00f3n c\u00f3smica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abNo estamos midiendo las propiedades de algo en el universo. Estamos comprendiendo c\u00f3mo funciona fundamentalmente el espacio en el que vivimos\u00bb, menciona McEnery sobre este trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>Se espera que la visi\u00f3n n\u00edtida y amplia del telescopio Roman capture hasta 200,000 planetas nuevos, un salto extraordinario con respecto a los aproximadamente 6,300 <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/cuales-son-las-tecnicas-utilizadas-para-descubrir-exoplanetas\">exoplanetas<\/a> confirmados. Ambos observan principalmente luz infrarroja y, al igual que Webb, Roman orbitar\u00e1 un punto en el espacio a casi un mill\u00f3n de millas de la Tierra llamado Punto de Lagrange 2, donde los telescopios pueden bloquear eficazmente la luz del Sol, la Tierra y la Luna.<\/p>\n<p>Pero mientras que Webb est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para adentrarse en las profundidades del cosmos, Roman adoptar\u00e1 una perspectiva m\u00e1s amplia. \u00abEl James Webb est\u00e1 optimizado para observar el universo, pero solo una peque\u00f1a porci\u00f3n del cielo.
