Durante ese per\u00edodo, form\u00f3 parte de varios subcomit\u00e9s, entre ellos Salud P\u00fablica y Cuidados a Largo Plazo, Operaciones Gubernamentales, Seguros y Productos Farmac\u00e9uticos, y Salud P\u00fablica y Disparidades en la Salud de las Minor\u00edas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_aupe copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\"><span class=\"_aupe copyable-text xkrh14z\">En 2022 fue designada presidenta de ese comit\u00e9, convirti\u00e9ndose en la latina de mayor rango en la historia de la Asamblea General de Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_aupe copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\"><span class=\"_aupe copyable-text xkrh14z\">Adem\u00e1s, es miembro del Caucus Legislativo Negro de Maryland y de la organizaci\u00f3n Legisladoras de Maryland. Tambi\u00e9n es miembro fundadora del Caucus Legislativo Latino de Maryland, del cual fue su primera presidenta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"_aupe copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\"><span class=\"_aupe copyable-text xkrh14z\">En octubre de 2019, Pe\u00f1a-Melnyk \u2014quien se identifica como afrodescendiente y latina\u2014 critic\u00f3 p\u00fablicamente una propuesta que obligar\u00eda a los legisladores a elegir entre pertenecer al caucus negro o al caucus latino.
