Este fen\u00f3meno suele atribuirse, en gran medida, al uso excesivo de ciertos f\u00e1rmacos en entornos cl\u00ednicos.<\/p>\n<p>Una proporci\u00f3n considerable de los antibi\u00f3ticos disponibles en el mercado se deriva de microorganismos presentes en el suelo. Sin embargo, esta es la primera ocasi\u00f3n en que se dise\u00f1a un genoma completo de manera artificial.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<p>Un equipo de investigadores del Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de California (Caltech) busc\u00f3 responder a esta inc\u00f3gnita mediante un estudio que combin\u00f3 metaan\u00e1lisis y experimentos de laboratorio. Sus resultados <strong>sugieren que las sequ\u00edas podr\u00edan favorecer la aparici\u00f3n de bacterias resistentes a los antibi\u00f3ticos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De acuerdo con el trabajo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41564-026-02274-x\">publicado hoy<\/a> en la revista <em>Nature Microbiology<\/em>, los cient\u00edficos emplearon un programa computacional para analizar cinco bases de datos previas, con el fin de evaluar las firmas metagen\u00f3micas de distintos tipos de suelos procedentes de varios pa\u00edses, entre ellos Suiza, Estados Unidos y China. El an\u00e1lisis se centr\u00f3 en determinar c\u00f3mo la aridez del suelo puede influir en la abundancia de genes microbianos relacionados tanto con la producci\u00f3n de antibi\u00f3ticos como con la resistencia a estos compuestos.<\/p>\n<p>Los autores identificaron que, en condiciones de escasez de agua, la competencia entre microorganismos se intensifica, lo que favorece la supervivencia de bacterias capaces de tolerar ambientes m\u00e1s hostiles. Su hip\u00f3tesis plantea que, a medida que disminuye la humedad del suelo, el espacio disponible para los microbios tambi\u00e9n se reduce. Como consecuencia, aumenta el contacto entre bacterias y compuestos antibi\u00f3ticos, lo que elimina a las m\u00e1s vulnerables y propicia el enriquecimiento de aquellas con mecanismos de defensa m\u00e1s eficaces.<\/p>\n<p>En este contexto, <strong>los microorganismos que logran sobrevivir son los que presentan mayor capacidad para resistir dichos compuestos.<\/strong> Esto incluye tanto a los productores de antibi\u00f3ticos como a otras cepas que albergan genes de resistencia.<\/p>\n<h2>A m\u00e1s sequ\u00edas, mayor incidencia de infecciones resistentes<\/h2>\n<p>Estos hallazgos fueron puestos a prueba en una serie de experimentos de laboratorio que, bajo condiciones controladas, confirmaron que en entornos secos las bacterias resistentes tienden a sobrevivir con mayor frecuencia en comparaci\u00f3n con las cepas m\u00e1s sensibles.<\/p>\n<p>Posteriormente, el equipo busc\u00f3 determinar si exist\u00eda una correlaci\u00f3n entre este fen\u00f3meno y una mayor incidencia de infecciones resistentes a los antibi\u00f3ticos en <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wired.com\/articulos\/gen-que-crea-superbacterias-resistentes-a-antibioticos-se-propaga\">entornos hospitalarios<\/a> de las regiones analizadas.<\/p>\n<p>Para ello, analizaron datos de vigilancia cl\u00ednica de 116 pa\u00edses y los compararon con informaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica local, como los niveles de precipitaci\u00f3n anual y las temperaturas medias.
