Christopher \u201cKid\u201d Reid may be a kid at heart, but after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and undergoing transplant surgery, he was reminded that he no longer has the heart of a kid \u2014 and now, he\u2019s speaking out to remind his older fans to take care of themselves.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Good Morning America<\/a> <\/em>on Thursday (Feb. 5), the Kid \u2018N Play <\/a>rapper opened up for the first time about a bout of health<\/a> issues he recently experienced. It all started last summer, when Reid began experiencing symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath, but didn\u2019t realize they were signs of a serious issue at first. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think sometimes you kinda just chalk it up to, you know, \u2018I\u2019m gettin\u2019 older,’\u201d Reid told GMA<\/em>\u2018s Michael Strahan. \u201cThe road is harsh.\u201d<\/p>\n

In July, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which the Mayo Clinic<\/a> describes as occurring \u201cwhen when the heart muscle doesn\u2019t pump blood as well as it should.\u201d His symptoms got so bad that he went to the ER to get checked out. He received medication to treat it, but three weeks later, his bloodwork showed that he needed heart transplant surgery. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe came in very swollen again, and that is a little unusual in somebody who\u2019s been started on treatment, for the swelling to come back that quickly,\u201d his cardiologist, Dr. Erika Jones at Cedars-Sinai, told GMA<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Nine days after his doctors placed him on the organ waitlist, he learned he\u2019d be getting a new heart. The next night, Reid underwent surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] a beautiful life,\u201d he told GMA <\/em>of his outlook post-surgery. \u201cIt\u2019s great. And, you know, I wanna be around for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of times, we don\u2019t go [to doctor appointments] because we don\u2019t want the bad news, or we too busy just hustlin\u2019, trying to make it from day to day,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd we \u2026 feel like we don\u2019t got time, or we\u2019ll get over it. Well, you might not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid and his Kid \u2018N Play partner, Christopher \u201cPlay\u201d Martin, were one of the defining rap groups of the \u201980s and \u201990s, charting three albums on the Billboard 200<\/a>. The duo\u2019s biggest mainstream hit was 1991\u2019s \u201cAin\u2019t Gonna Hurt Nobody,\u201d which reached No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a>, but the duo also scored a number of hits on the hip-hop charts; \u201cFunhouse\u201d topped the Hot Rap Songs<\/a> tally in 1990, while \u201cRollin\u2019 With Kid \u2018N Play\u201d reached No. 2 the year prior.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Billboard<\/a> <\/em>named Kid \u2018N Play on its list of the 50 greatest rap groups of all time.<\/p>\n
